Frequent Asked Questions

  1. How do I keep gel polish from lifting?

To avoid lifting, you need to make sure that you avoid painting on nail edges and the cuticles. Ensure you buff the nail surface to remove the shine, especially in the corners of the nails and the edges. It's a good idea to clean up the edges and cuticles beforehand using acetone. Then you should paint the nails using thin coats of gel polish. Thicker coats make lifting more likely to happen.

  1. How to remove gel polish without damaging my nails?

- File off the top layer

- Cover cotton balls in acetone or polish remover.

- Use the foil to secure the cotton balls on the nails

- After 15 minutes, remove the foil one nail at a time. The gel will have started to peel back. Use a cuticle stick to push the gel off your nail.

- Finish with cuticle oil.

  1. What does Grit mean in nail files?

Grit is the number of abrasive grain particles per inch of sandpaper. The lower the grit, the bigger the grain and the coarser the sandpaper. Higher grit sandpaper has smaller grains. This means that it takes more grains to fill up a square inch, which helps give the nail file a smoother feel.

  1. What is a "Washable" nail file?

Many nail files are made with sand "papers" that bond the grit to the paper with glue. Different adhesives are used to bond the abrasive to the paper. Hide glue is still used, but this glue is not waterproof. Any nail file manufactured with this type of glue would not be considered waterproof and described as "non-washable".

Waterproof or "washable" nail files use a resin bond adhesive and a waterproof paper backing. This permits the nail files to be cleaned and used again by washing in water or other disinfectants and will not swell, shred or peel apart.

  1. How To Properly Clean Your Washable Nail File:

- Add a few drops of anti-bacterial soap in a bowl of water.

- Soak the files in the mixture for a minute.

- Run under tap water to rinse.

- Air dry.
